CONSULTING

NAGA offers our UNLIMITED consultation services which includes but is not limited to:

  • Advice concerning the incorporation of technology and digital learning to achieve maximum student engagement.

  • Ongoing course evaluation with recommendations for optimization.

Applicable to Native themed schools:

  • Advice concerning any issues or controversies which may arise relative to your school's use of a Native theme.

  • Working to get a regional tribe to endorse your school's Native American educational initiatives.

  • Defending your school against attacks from name change activists.

By bringing a fact based narrative to schools that come under attack, NAGA has successfully defended schools across the nation from calls to change their Native themes. These name change campaigns typically exert a heavy emotional toll on community stakeholders. The financial toll to rebrand can easily run into hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We have successfully lobbied several state legislatures to put down bill proposals that would ban schools from using Native names and imagery to represent their athletic teams. In 2019, NAGA leaders testified before the Utah state legislature concerning this topic. Also in 2019 we dispatched 3 expert witnesses to make arguments before the Pennsylvania  Human Relations Commission. After a 3 year battle with change activists, the Commission ruled in favor of the Neshaminy Redskins continued use of their Native theme. In their ruling the Commission cited the NAGA motto, "Educate not Eradicate."

In 2021 we sued the state of Colorado over their passage of a law that would enforce strict financial penalties on schools who continue to use Native names and imagery. Finally, in 2022, we consulted with the Cambridge, New York school board concerning attempts by the state to pressure their school to drop their Indians name and logo. The school made the decision to challenge these efforts in court.

In addition to defending and advising your school, we want to "Bring Native America" to your campus. Here's how.

  • NAGA will be hosting an annual webinar available free of charge to staff, administrators, and board members. Topics covered include data research, opinion polls, the case for education over eradication, education fundamentals, and the real issues in Indian Country.

  • Once per semester we will make available via video conferencing, an American Indian guest speaker to share their unique knowledge and experience with students.

  • Assistance with event planning and implementation. We suggest one feature cultural event during the Fall semester (ideally during Native American Heritage Month in November). Our experienced consultants can assist in all aspects of event planning including budgeting, fundraising, sourcing talent, and much more.  Additionally, as an American Indian not for profit organization, we will apply for cultural outreach grants, which once approved, will be applied directly to your schools cultural outreach events.
